During the month of December, a forum on the climate action was held jointly by Youth Action, FAir 4 All (Fair Air Coalition), and the 10 by 2020 campaign. The discussion focused on the current steps being taken to reduce climate change. The forum began live from COP21, the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Held in Paris, France, this conference invited nations around the world to discuss steps they plan to take to reduce climate change. Claire Richer, Director of Citizens Voice at Citizens Climate Lobby s Pathway to Paris Program, spoke live from the event. According to Claire, these were â€Å" the biggest UN climate change talks in history†. She felt optimistic about some recent developments that came out of the conference. Anti-virus programs are reactive programs that are designed to respond to the newly developed viruses or threats. This may be considered as a benefit for an immediate cure may be devised and administered readily as response, but there are also facts that point that this nature of anti-virus programs may actually be considered a drawback. Because of this nature, these kinds of programs are prone to false positive results. Since the upgrades are automated, there is a high probability for mistakes. There are anti-virus softwares that take a while before detecting new threats on the net. The shortest time that an anti-virus program may track a threat is three days after it was released on the net. Today’s researchers are still in the process of improving this and gradually reducing it to a smaller number (Hruska) With such a loophole, computer users may resort to another security option. Other than anti-virus programs, they may also opt to install firewalls in their private or corporate networks. The anti-virus programs serve as the artillery while the firewalls are the shield that re put up in defense of the important files saved in the computer hardware. Firewalls are programs designed to protect private networks from unauthorized entry. It prevents other users to access and extract files or information without permission from a main source that is connected to the internet. Huge companies who consider not permitted extraction of information as a cause for concern may utilize firewalls to secure their files (Ranum). Some firewalls are designed to do one or two things. Some installed firewalls protect a personal or a company’s internal network from unwanted interchange from public internet. There are also some that may limit the access from the hosts of the corporate network to public services available on the internet. Still, there are other firewall setup that may support the use of private IP addresses for corporate or internal networks while at the same time share one connection to the public internet (Barbish). As according to the above-mentioned functions, there are many advantages in installing a firewall in one’s computer especially within a corporate network. However, like the anti-virus software, firewalls also have disadvantages. Since there are some firewalls that cannot function as the other does, it makes it impossible to have all the necessary security measures by installing only a firewall. It is not also probable to install more than two firewall programs in one’s computer. In addition, firewalls do not function the way anti-virus softwares do (Caruso) Given that, firewalls are known to work best with an anti-virus software. Where the firewall fails, the anti-virus software continues to work. They are mutually necessary for each other in order to have a tight security for one’s personal computer. Anything that passes the firewall may easily be traced by the anti-virus program the moment it does internal scanning of files in the hard drive. While anti-virus programs are designed to protect a single unit of hard drive, the firewall works well as a barrier from malicious programs and hackers for networked computers (Ranum n,p). It also acts as a screen that keeps the private network safe from malicious users in the internet. Some users get confused on what should be applied to their computers. While it is already quite depressing for single unit users, large corporations are boggled by this dilemma. If in any case the threat gets past both the anti-virus program and the firewall, all information that is classified goes out to the public. This is why some large corporations would rather have no internet connection than risk their security (Ranum). Researchers suggested that since one of the two security programs cannot function as the other, it may be effective to use them together. First is to install a firewall that will keep all threats out. Second is to put in an effective anti-virus program which can trace new viruses on the net the fastest among all other anti-virus software. Then install another firewall program for better measures in case both initial programs were breached. This way, the trespassing users in the public internet may be kept out as well as the malicious programs that may destroy the whole system of the computer (Cheswick 90). It may then be concluded that the desire of man to make work lighter have lead to the advent of computers and other technological advancements. However, due to the unquenched desire to improve things, man has also created things that can damage or destroy what has been created. This way man can once again build something that may respond to the destruction that has been invented. In the case of computers, the things that destroy are the viruses designed by some programmers, while the things that respond to the damages are the anti-virus programs and firewalls. The firewall protects a personal or corporate network from any breach by unauthorized person who has internet access. It protects classified information from spreading without permission and also prevents spread of malicious programs that may enter through the public network. On the other hand, the anti-virus acts as support in cases where the threat has already entered the system. The other is the guard while the other is the cleaner. These two computer innovations compliment each other in keeping the files and the entire personal or corporate computer system safe and well guarded from any kind of malicious threats. The Border Patrol State In â€Å"The Border Patrol State† Leslie Silko makes accusations of the border patrol’s mistreatment of American citizens of Mexican decent, making the argument with almost evidence. Silko, a critically acclaimed poet, sees the border patrol as a governmental assembly addicted to interrogation, torture, and the murder of those they see fit. Leslie Silko certainly makes accusations that some could argue far exceed the boundaries of journalism integrity, and fail to deliver with evidence to back them up. The author of this piece is a Mexican-American living in the Southwest United States. The author is using personal experience to convey a problem to his or her audience. The audience of this piece is quite broad. First and foremost, Mexican-Americans just like the author. People who can relate to what the author has to say, maybe someone who has experienced something similar. The author also seems to be seeking out an audience of white Americans who find themselves unaware of the problem at our borders. The author even offers up a warning to white America when she notes, â€Å"White people traveling with brown people, however, can expect to be stopped on suspicion they work with the sanctuary movement†(125). The purpose of this writing is to pull out a problem that is hidden within or society, and let people see it for what it is and isn’t. This topic is a problem, but it may not be all that it is said to be. Throughout this piece the author shows us what is wrong with system of keeping illegals out of our country. She opens talking of her cousin Bill Pratt, who she claims rode freely from New Mexico to Arizona without disturbances throughout the early 1900’s. From a story of freedom of the past, s... ...ontradicting herself, and pointing the finger. Although she most likely has experienced these acts of unjust treatment, she seems to put the reader in the position to doubt the credibility of what she has to say time and again. In wrapping up the analysis of Silko’s paper the reader is left with a bitter taste. Although Silko points out an important issue, she seems to be too overdramatic when telling of personal experience. Silko leaves the reader too skeptical of what she has to say. The reader has a hard time believing what they read. Silko finds refuge through her writing, but does not handle the subject with as much care as it is due. Relationship between Satyagraha and Swaraj for Gandhi Essay

The word ‘Satya’ means ‘Truth’ and ‘Graha’ means ‘Force’, Satyagraha therefore means ‘Truth force’ or the force obtained by the practice of truth. The term Satyagraha is largely associated with non-violence. Gandhi advocated Satyagraha as a means to attain ‘Swaraj’ or ‘self-governance’. Satyagraha is a political philosophy propagated and practiced by Gandhi and his followers. The practitioners of this philosophy are called ‘satyagrahis’. The satyagrahis are guided by the principles advocated by Gandhi based on Yoga Sutra; non-violence, truth, non-stealing, chastity, non-possession and fearlessness. The essential elements of Satyagraha are civil-disobedience and non-cooperation as a means to attain freedom. Civil-disobedience entailed breaking a law which is found as unjust and courting arrest. Non-co-operation meant â€Å"refusing to co-operate with the opponent, refusing to submit to the injustice being fought† (What is Satyagraha? ). â€Å"Gandhiji felt that laws which were totally against the welfare of the people could be fought peacefully by organizing mass-protests in a civil way’ (Jyotsna Kamat) The basic principles of Satyagraha are essentially based on non-violence. It is observed as a basic fact that violence brings more violence. Violence causes destruction, damage to people and property and any violent protest, even for a right cause, invariably leaves a negative mark on the society. Non-violence on the contrary is free from the negative aspects of violence, yet non-violent protests send a very strong message and are successful. Gandhi believed that by demonstrating protests in a non-violent manner it is possible to completely transform the antagonist and effect a positive change. He believed that transformation in the antagonist mindset can only be brought about by non-violent means. He worked to ‘convert’ the antagonist, to truly transform him from within which forms the core values of Satyagraha. Thus the political philosophy of Satyagraha with non-violence as its essence is an ideology that came to be widely accepted and practiced. It is a concept that has been instrumental to the independence of India. The concept of ‘civilized’ protests with no damage to public property and protesting without resorting to violence of any sort is commendable. Gandhi’s idea of civil disobedience and civil non-cooperation emphasizes a respect for the general rule of the law and is focused on protesting only against any law that is felt as unjust. â€Å"Swaraj lays stress on governance not by a hierarchical government, but self governance through individuals and community building. The focus is on political decentralization† (Wikipedia). The basic idea of Swaraj was to evolve a political system where the power ultimately lies in the hands of the people, building a government ‘for the people and by the people’. â€Å"The real goal of the freedom struggle was not only to secure political azadi (independence) from Britain, but rather to gain true swaraj (liberation and self-rule)† (What is Swaraj?) as Gandhi explains â€Å"It is Swaraj when we learn to rule ourselves†. Swaraj is Gandhi’s endeavor to build a political system where the common man is empowered and he had a spiritual outlook towards his political philosophy which is reflected in the principles of Swaraj. According to Gandhi, â€Å"at the individual level Swaraj is vitally connected with the capacity for dispassionate self-assessment, ceaseless self-purification and growing self-reliance†. He believed that it is important for people to rule themselves properly and never be a disturbance to the society. During the Harlem Renaissance white art enthusiast aided the development of black artist, by funding these artists. The Blues I’m Playing by Langston Hughes is a short story where a young African American pianist, Oceola Jones, who studies music under the patronage of Dora Ellsworth. Dora is a wealthy, white middle aged, widow with no children. Langston Hughes uses this connection between these characters to express the meaning of the blues. The meaning blues isn’t very clear until the very end of the story, when Oceola and Ms.Ellsworth had their fallout. Ms. Ellsworth is very upset when she learns that Oceola wants to marry Pete Williams. Dora believes that marriage will burden her protegee talents. â€Å"He’ll take all the music out of you† (pg 475). Oceola is playing the piano one last time for Ms. Ellsworth before she leaves to Europe. They begin to argue while Oceola is playing one of Beethoven sonatas. As they continue to argue Osceola’s chang e the style of playing to the Negro Blues. As Osceola plays on Dora ask â€Å"Is this what I spent thousands of dollars to teach you? (pg 475) Oceola replies â€Å"No, this is mine†¦ Listen. †(pg 475) Oceola’s blues began to flourish. Blues that Oceola plays only comes in a time of distress. The fight between Oceola and Ms. Ellsworth force the blues out of Oceola. The Blues in this story represents Oceola real feeling about love, music and art. According to Ralph Ellison â€Å"the blues is an impulse to keep painful details and episodes of a brutal existence alive in one’s aching consciousness†¦Ã¢â‚¬  This definition and Langston Hughes’s interpretation of Blues seem to not conform to each other.Ellison is saying that the artist of the blues has to have a hardship in their past to express it in the blues. In Hughes’s story Oceola really never had anything in her past that made express the blues like she did. It was more that she couldn ’t outlet her frustration of Ms. Ellsworth and her feeling of art to anyone. Oceola bottle up the feeling and lashed out at the end to Ms. Ellsworth in a blues song. Ellison’s and Hughes’s definitions are both good interpretation of what the blues are. By combining Ellison’s and Hughes’s interpretation we have a clear definition of what the blues really are.The Blues is a kind of jazz  that evolved from the music of African-Americans, especially work songs and spirituals. Blues pieces often express worry or depression. The songs help keep remembrance of past hardship experienced and help cope with future problem that may come. The patronage of whites helped the African American art and music explode during the Harlem Renaissance. Langston Hughes uses the connection between Oceola and Ms. Ellsworth to express his interpretation of the Blues. Hughes’s and Ellison’s definitions help explain what the blues actually are.

Researchers have proven that using hemp cellulose matter to replace wood products could very well become a viable option in the fight to save our depleting national forests. Construction products such as medium density fiber board, oriented strand board, and even studs and posts could be made out of hemp. Because of hemp’s long fibers, the products will be stronger and/or lighter than those made of wood (worrell). Another fact which requires serious consideration, one acre of hemp (grown in a single season) yields as much paper as up to four acres of trees (which take many more years to grow) (soiferman). Another side of the debate that should be given some reflection is the difference in the environmental effects of processing wood as opposed to hemp. Most notable of these differences is the chemical requirements of pulping both hemp and wood. For example, because of hemp’s low lignin content, it can be pulped using fewer chemicals than wood. Hemp’s natural brightness can obviate the need to use chlorine bleach, which means no extremely toxic dioxin being dumped into streams. A kinder and gentler chemistry using hydrogen pero xide rather than chlorine dioxide is possible with hemp fibers (worrell). One positive effect of the environmentally safer chemical processes is the fact the run off water from the processing plant could be used to irrigate future crops of the plant. This is important because any chemicals we allow to run off from our nation’s factories find their way into our water tables, and possibly into our livestock’s water supplies. By limiting the amount of water resources we are forced to use processing hemp, we can limit the environmental footprint of these facilities. By fully exploring the various ways hemp could be used to replace wood products our generation would be responsible for saving our precious forests. Before we can take an educated stance on the differences between hemp and cotton we would first have to look at the chemical requirements of growing each crop. To begin with, cotton crops in the United States occupy 1% of the country’s farmland but use 50% of all pesticides (soiferman). Fifty percent of all pesticides used in the United States is alarming when you take into consideration just how many different crops the United States grows each year. Hemp grows well in a variety of climates and soil types opening opportunities to new farming markets. Hemp is naturally resistant to most pests, precluding the need for pesticides. It grows tightly spaced, out-competing any weeds, so herbicides are not necessary. Hemp also leaves a weed-free field for a following crop (worrell). The use of pesticides has adversely affected the very health of our planet, and it is important to mention we as a society are still discovering the true devastation our choices are having on our s urroundings. The pesticides and synthetic fertilizers used on cotton routinely contaminate groundwater, surface water, and pollute the water we drink. Fish, birds and other wildlife are also affected by the movement of these chemicals through the ecosystem (lotusorganics). Between hemp’s ability to grow virtually anywhere, and the proven environmental benefits of not requiring chemicals to sustain a crop, we owe it to ourselves to give hemp the chance it deserves. Now that the environmental differences between hemp and cotton have been described, products made from both hemp and cotton should be examined. The differences in products are very clear, hemp is four times warmer than cotton, four times more water absorbent, and has three times the tensile strength of cotton (soiferman). Hemp is also many times more durable and is naturally flame retardant (soiferman). Over the last few years hemp has begun to establish itself in the world’s clothing market with name brand manufactures taking advantage of foreign grown hemp to produce their products. Many high fashion clothing manufactures have produced clothes and footwear made with hemp, some of these manufactures include Nike, Converse, Armani, Patagonia, Polo Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and many more (soiferman). Recently a pro cotton organization posted some disturbing facts regarding the growing and production of cotton products. A staff member at Lotus organics was quoted as saying; The simple act of conventionally growing and harvesting the one pound of cotton fiber needed to make a T-shirt takes an enormous and devastating toll on the earth’s air, water, and soil that impacts global health. Also, policies and practices within the cotton industry from crop subsidies to garment sweatshops create poverty and misery that stretch around the world. Cotton industry trade organizations such as Cotton Incorporated spend millions and millions of dollars attempting to convince American consumers of the hoax that conventional chemical cotton is pure and friendly to the health of the wearer (lotusorganics). It is of utmost importance that information detailing both the pros and cons of each crop be examined prior to the making of decisions regarding the crops futures. When taking into account the advantages of any new technology it is important to understand all facts surrounding both sides of an issue to prevent misconceptions. Tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC, and other cannabiniods are found in food and other products made from fiber hemp seed. THC is the chemical element which gives Marijuana its analgesic effects. The government’s stance on THC is clearly defined within the controlled substances (CSA) act of 1970, and it is the job of Americas Drug Enforcement Agency, or DEA, to assure no products containing THC are sold for human consumption in the United States. When congress wrote the CSA in 1970, it provided anything that contains â€Å"any quantity† of a schedule 1 hallucinogenic controlled substance is, itself a Schedule 1 controlled substance, unless it is an FDA-approved drug product. Thus, the CSA prohibits human consumption of any non-FDA-approved product that contains any amount of THC. Today’s rule s reiterate this long-standing aspect of federal law (usdoj). Since THC and the over 60 other cannabiniods are fat-soluble, i.e., store themselves in the fatty tissues of the brain and body, even a very small amount may be damaging, especially if ingested regularly (mcdougal). At this time the basis of arguments for the legalization of industrialized hemp in the United States have nothing to do with promoting consumption of hemp products. First and foremost it is imperative that we not rule out the many possible attributes of this ancient plant simply because a select group of individuals want to get high. Hemp is in fact a member of the Cannabis Sativa family of plants; however, the THC content in industrialized hemp is so minute it would be virtually impossible to get high by consuming or smoking the plant. Industrialized hemp has a THC content between 0.05% and 1%. Marijuana has a THC content of 3% to 20%. To receive a standard psychoactive dose would require a person to power smoke 10-12 hemp cigarettes over a matter of minutes. The large volume and high temperature of vapor, gas, and smoke would be almost impossible for a person to stand (worrell). Under current legislation citizens across America are being held to a grievous double standard. It is currently illegal to grow industrial hemp for food, oil, paper or fabric in the united states of America, but it is perfectly legal to export hemp to the united states and to process, consume and wear it there (soiferman). Last year, Canadian farmers planted 48,060 acres of hemp. Government statistics say Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the provinces along North Dakotas northern border, were Canadas biggest hemp producers (Wetzel). The United States current policy does not pass any logic test. Why is it our government thus far has been unable to move past the stereotypes, and offer the American public the same opportunities we give to the countries exporting hemp into America? By moving past the stereotypes and giving serious consideration to the legalization of industrialized hemp, America now has an opportunity to become an active participant in the saving of forests and reducing pollution. Through the use of hemp, we as a society could again be credited with advanced thought, and ingenuity which is after all just a few of the many attributes which distinguish each of us as Americans in the first place. Listed in the body of this letter are but a few of the many contributions industrialized hemp could offer our country, and I am confident hemp could if given the chance, surprise us all with more contributions to our economy and environment. Javier Hernandez, aka â€Å"Chicharito†, is a Mexican soccer player who plays for Manchester United, being the first Mexican to do so. Before, he played for the Mexican team Guadalajara (a. k. a Chivas). He made his debut for the Mexico national football team in September 2009 in a match against Colombia and represented them at the 2010 FIFA World Cup scoring two goals. Javier was born in Guadalajara on June 1st, 1988 and first played soccer when he was seven years old. His father, Javier Hernandez Gutierrez, an ex-Mexican soccer player, said he never thought his son would actually make it as a professional. In this paper, two peer reviewed articles from two different websites devoted to psychology will be critically evaluated to illustrate the importance and role of psychological assessment and testing. The first website is www. apa. org, the title of the article is ‘How is Psychopathology Assessed in Older Adults? ’ The author of the article is the American Psychological Association. The problem deals specifically to the assessment of ‘older adults’ which are 65 years old and above. The authors list and identify several types of psychopathological assessment for older adults. The identification of the different types of assessment and test regarding the psychopathology in older adults help students, experts and other concerned individual understand the process and the meaning of the said assessments. The group hypothesize that dimensional type (age-based) of analysis is better than categorical type (illness-based) analysis in the case of older adults. The research design they used is a qualitative design. The methodology that they used is historical research wherein they analyze the data from previous works to find a generalization from deduction that can help in understanding the past, present and even future trends regarding the psychopathological assessment in older adults. They conducted their research through a comparison of the different screening measures used for older adults. The authors suggested that the Geriatric Depression Scale is the most useful due to the fact that it is age related, it can assess those who are cognitively impaired since it can either be oral or written and it is not depressive. They compared the BECK Anxiety Scale, the Geriatric Depression Scale, the Cage and Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test-Geriatric version, the MMPI-2 test, the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, Rorschach Inkblot Test and the Thematic Apperception Test. The authors decided to find out which assessment is most applicable and helpful since no standard exist regarding the psychopathological assessment of adults. The second website is www. mental-health-matters. com, the article is entitled ‘Personality and Stress? ’ The author was Gillian Darby, a psychologist and affiliated to Get Mental Help, Inc. The research problem was concerned on the possible relationship between personality and stress. It was important to identify the relationship to help caution those people with a personality prone to stress regarding future problems and help them understand themselves better through stress-management activities. Darby hypothesize that those who posses type ‘A’ personality are more prone to stress. Darby further elaborates that hose with type ‘B’ personality were often less aggressive and are therefore less prone to stress. The research design that was used was a qualitative research. Using this research design, Darby tries to explore the connections that exist between type ‘A’ personality and stress. The methodology that the author used is data analysis to be able to formulate the pattern/s and principle/s involve. Darby used literature review and case study review. This is what librarian and tumblr user alethiosaur, inspired by  Worthington Libraries, sought to prove with her local library event, in which she paired browsing library-goers with titles unknown to them except for the few characteristics she listed on their sealed-up covers. Fortunately, she was able to avoid those overused dating site catchphrases, Im tired of all the games, and If you like moonlit walks on the beach. Heres a few examples of what she came up with instead: Recognize the titles above? How about these ones: Happily, most of the books got hot dates with more than thirty readers. We started with ~40 books. Two hours later, all but four had found homes with library patrons (sorry,  Flush,  Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E.
